I know camel meat might not be the most common ingredient in many kitchens, but trust me, this recipe will make you a fan. Camel meat is lean, flavorful, and when cooked right, incredibly tender. This curry is rich, aromatic, and packed with spices that highlight the unique flavor of the meat.
If you’re new to cooking camel, this dish is a great place to start. The yogurt and slow cooking ensure the meat becomes melt-in-your-mouth tender, while the blend of spices adds warmth and depth. Serve it with chapati, rice, or even couscous for a hearty and satisfying meal.

Ingredients
500g diced camel meat
1 large white onion, finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, crushed
1 thumb-sized piece of ginger, crushed
1 tbsp cumin
1 tbsp coriander
1 tbsp turmeric
1 tbsp cornflour
1 cup natural yogurt
1 cup water
Cooking oil
Salt, to taste
Instructions
Marinate the Meat: Place the diced camel meat in a large bowl. Add the cumin, coriander, turmeric, cornflour, and a drizzle of cooking oil. Season generously with salt and mix well until the meat is evenly coated. Cover and let it marinate for 1-2 hours to allow the flavors to infuse.
Brown the Meat: Heat a large pan over high heat. Once hot, add the marinated camel meat and sear it until it’s browned on all sides. This step locks in the flavor, so don’t skip it!
Deglaze the Pan: After browning the meat, pour in 1 cup of water to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits stuck to the bottom. This adds depth to the curry.
Add the Yogurt: Lower the heat and stir in the natural yogurt. Mix everything well to create a rich and creamy sauce.
Slow Cook: Cover the pan tightly with foil or a lid and transfer it to a preheated oven at 160°C (320°F). Let it cook for 1-2 hours, or until the camel meat is tender and infused with the spices.
Serve: Once the curry is ready, remove it from the oven and give it a good stir. Serve hot with chapati, rice, or couscous, and enjoy the bold, comforting flavors of this unique dish.
This camel curry is a true celebration of bold spices and slow cooking. Give it a try, and it might just become a new favorite!
